Abstract

The goal of this paper is to present the history of the quartz electronic watch. The first quartz watch was a Swiss wristwatch presented in 1967. It was exactly 20 years after the invention of the transistor. Today Switzerland and Japan are dominant on the market of electronic watches. In Switzerland, the competencies in low-power electronics come directly from the watch industry.
