Abstract
Virtual organizations are characterized by their dynamic nature and transient work arrangements. This in turn requires computer toolkits that go beyond workflow systems to provide support for process emergence and continually varying team members. Such toolkits must allow users to quickly form teams, allocate responsibilities, and set up support services. The paper describes requirements placed on such toolkits by the nature of collaborative work and describes the feasibility of meeting them by illustrating a prototype toolkit that meets such requirements.
