Abstract
For most CORBA applications, interworking is based on TCP/IP. ORBs communicate with other ORBs either with IIOP which is an OMG standardised inter-ORB protocol or with a proprietary protocol over TCP/IP. Applications on computers without connection to a TCP/IP network have been neglected for a long period. This paper presents a protocol SIOP which allows inter-ORB communication over Signalling System No.7. The protocol uses GIOP messages which are transferred over the protocol SCCP class 1. In this paper it will be shown what decisions have been taken during the design of SIOP and how the protocol can influence the development of distributed object-oriented applications in the telecommunication area.
