Abstract
This paper discusses the requirements of knowledge management from the point of view of Database Systems. Primarily, it focuses on the practical investigations that led to a DBS-based architecture for an effective and efficient management of large knowledge bases. This architecture, called KRISYS, is described, thereby concentrating on the mechanisms used to support the nearby application locality concept as well as to map knowledge structures onto secondary storage.
