Abstract
Today's computer systems consist of increasingly complex software and hardware components. The development of these systems can only be managed by integrated software tools for the different application areas and for the different project participants. This paper illustrates the main advantages of using an integrated project support environment built by heterogeneous tools to support efficently the development of complex systems from the initial requirements specification through system design and documentation to long-term maintenance. It outlines the requirements for such an IPSE and discusses the EPOS System as an example which satisfies these requirements.
