Abstract
Shafer and Logan (1987) gave an algorithm for the exact implementation of Dempster-Shafer's rule in the case of hierarchical evidence. This algorithm is computationally efficient, and it makes the approximation suggested by Gordon and Shortliffe (1985) unnecessary. However, the key steps in the Shafer-Logan algorithm (Subroutines 4 and 6) are rather complicated. In this article we improve the algorithm to make the key steps unnecessary. This makes the algorithm more attractive for embodiment in working systems.
