Abstract

The increasing interest in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) pushes the development of wireless high speed data communication systems. In this paper we describe the integration of the high frequency parts of a direct sequence spread-spectrum modem for 2.5 GHz. The transmitter chip consists of a BPSK modulator with high carrier suppression, a local oscillator, a prescaler and a RF amplifier. The receiver chip is designed as a converter with a low noise amplifier, mixer and IF amplifier. It includes the same oscillator and prescaler as the transmitter. The chip set is operating from a 5 V power supply with a power consumption of 350 and 290 mW, respectively, and measures about 2.5 mm2 each.
