Abstract
We describe the multimedia teletutoring application jointly developed by EPFL and Eurecom in the context of the first 34 Mbits/s Trans-European ATM network interconnecting sites in France and Switzerland. This network was called the Broadband Exchange over Trans-European Links (BETEL). The aim of this paper is to describe the BETEL teletutoring platform and its building blocks, together with performance evaluation, limitations and future enhancements of this prototype. Focus is placed on the interactive audio and video communication part of the application.
