Abstract

The estimate of the influence of the application of the coding rules on the portability has been determined by judicious guessing so far. From applying the tool VAL, quantitative results for actual code can be obtained and compared with the amount of work necessary to port it in order to obtain a taxonomy of each of the rules. This in turn offers the possibility to quantitatively estimate the portability effort through static code analysis.
