Abstract

This paper proposes and discusses the results of performance measurements at the institutes local asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network following the change of numerous communication parameters, especially Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, with the aim of giving a general view of ATM connections within a LAN. It compares the results with theoretically available data rates, and gives a conclusion of measurements of raw data rates which depend on QoS parameters with a given bandwidth for data exchange over a communication route, and values for the round trip time (RTT) for different application programming interfaces (API).
