Abstract
This paper present an application of FPGA on Closed Caption data processing. With top-down design methodology, start from a Closed Caption decoder abstraction, drill down to a gate-level circuit then implementation does under bottom-up scheme. The Xilinx and Viewlogic software tools are use to implement Closed Caption processor. This processor work on both NTSC and PAL TV signal. A prototype set-top decoder can be build with only a few additional component such as memory (RAM and ROM ), comparator and video overlay synchronizer.
