Abstract
Communication in data parallel architectures has been limited considerably due to the properties of conventional SIMD communication networks. In this study, we illustrate the degree of concurrency available in several data parallel applications. However, this con- currency can not be exploited in traditional SIMD machines. We investigate the commu- nication properties and alternate communication mechanisms which may be used effectively to exploit this available concurrency. Some preliminary results are presented.
