Definition
A spatial decision support system(SDSS) is a computer-based system that combines conventional data, spatially‐referenced data and information, and decision logic as a tool for assisting a human decision-maker. It usually includes a user interface for communicating with the decision-maker. It is the logical marriage of geographic information systems (GIS) and decision support systems (DSS) technologies to form an even more powerful assistant for decision‐making. In these systems the database and decision engine of the DSS is enhanced with the capability of specifying, analyzing, and presenting the “where” of information sets within the GIS. An SDSS does not actually make a decision, but instead assists the human decision-maker in reviewing and analyzing data and presenting processed information in a form that is friendly to the decision-maker.
