Definitions
Active Archive, Active Archive Center. An organization whose role is to provide processing support, archiving, documentation, and distribution services for information and data during the life of a remote sensing mission, project, or program (derived from NASA’s Strategic Evolution of Earth Science Enterprise Data Systems (SEEDS) Formulation Team Final Recommendations Report (SEEDS Formulation Team, 2003)).
Archive Center. Traditionally an archive, archive center, or records center has been defined as “an organization that collects the records of individuals, families, or other organizations; a collecting archives… The building (or portion thereof) housing archival collections” where records are “materials created or received by a person, family, or organization in the conduct of their affairs and preserved because of the enduring value…” as defined by the Society of American Archivists...
