Definition

Reflector antenna. An antenna consisting of one or more reflecting surfaces and a feed system for transmitting and/or receiving electromagnetic waves.

Introduction

Modern utilizations of reflector antennas in radars, satellite communications and tracking, remote sensing, radio astronomy, and the like have resulted in the development both of sophisticated reflector antenna configurations and of analytical and experimental design techniques. Reflector antennas typically take various configurations, some of the most popular ones being singly and doubly curved, single and multiple reflectors, and many others. The nature of applications and the resulting radiation patterns, such as pencil beam, contour beam, multifrequency, polarizations, and so on, dictate the actual configuration of reflector antennas.

One may classify reflector antennas in a variety of ways. Reflector antennas may be identified according to the types of radiation pattern, reflector surface, and feed....
