Definition

Face photography is used in passports, visas, driver licenses, or other identification documents. Face photographs can be used by human viewers or by automated face recognition systems, either for confirmation of a claimed identity (usually termed verification) or, by searching a database of face images, for determining the possible identity of an individual (usually termed identification). ISO/IEC 19794-5 defines a standard data format for digital face images to allow interoperability among face recognition systems, government agencies, and other creators and users of face images. In addition to image quality factors such as resolution, contrast, and brightness, many other factors affect face recognition accuracy, including subject positioning, pose and expression, illumination uniformity, and the use of eyeglasses or makeup, as well as the time difference between two...
