Epidermis

Encyclopedia of Biometrics

Epidermis is the uppermost layer of the skin. Its thickness varies depending upon the location of the skin. Generally it is found to be 0.5 nm on the eyelids (thinnest) and 1.5 nm at palm and sole (thickest). It consists of five layers named:

    Stratum germinatum

  2. 2.

    Stratum granulosum

  3. 3.

    Stratum spinosum

  4. 4.

    Stratum licidum

  5. 5.

    Stratum corneum
