Privacy is the ability or right of an individual to control how information pertaining to that person is collected, distributed, and used. Surveillance, by its premise violates or at the least infringes on the privacy of an individual. Hence, in that regard, it is extremely important to ensure that the information collected (with or without consent) does not violate the legal rights of the individual.
