Abstract
In this paper is presented a performance analysis of Controller Area Network (CAN) fieldbus on real-time systems using the Hartstone Uniprocessor Benchmark (HUB). Two nodes form the CAN platform of test: a PCI 712 card and a DIOC 711, digital input/output module. For each experience is presented the calculations of theorical results and the experimental results of bus occupation, when the breakdown point is reached. It is include some experiences extra benchmark that we consider necessary to that analysis and the respective results.
It is obtained results both on the test applicability and on fieldbus performance. The results of performance analysis demonstrated that CAN fieldbus works reasonably well with any kind of traffic: periodic messages with harmonic frequencies periodic messages with non-harmonic frequencies and messages with aperiodic processing.
