Abstract

The multi-part standard on control center ergonomics written by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) will cover topics such as control suite, control room layout, workstation design, human-system interface design, and environmental requirements. Progress on this standard is presented with an outline description of the subjects to be covered in each of its eight different parts. The scope and application of this ergonomic standard are described and examples listed of the types of control center which will need to consider its requirements. Comments on the practical application, and end users of this standard will be presented, together with some gathered problems encountered when developing such a standard.
