Abstract

Over the past ten years a number of parallel programming research projects, both inside and outside the functional programming community, have investigated the exploitation of “algorithmic skeletons”. In this chapter, we introduce the central concept involved, outline the research issues which arise and investigate the two projects which have made most progress towards practical realisation.
