An Approach to Query Translation in a Federation of Distributed Heterogeneous Database Systems

  • Conference paper
OOIS’97

Abstract

In this paper we present the approach to query translation in the federated database system VHDBS, which has been jointly developed by a research project at the Technology Center of Deutsche Telekom and at the Fraunhofer Institute ISST. We introduce the corresponding algorithms and describe how a query against the federated database is translated into subqueries for different local databases, and how the results of the subqueries are synthesized to form the final result for the federated database.
