The value associated with an individual’s connections
Definition
“We all live in a connected world.” Although considered clichégiven that we see connections in all we do (e.g., social network activity, religious meetings, workplace associations, college clubs), can we honestly utter these words and truthfully use the “all”? Unfortunately when it comes to networks in rural areas, the true nature of this sentence is not as clear. In this essay we will focus on areas in which networks (particularly social networks) have been used by rural communities or studies that relate to improving life in rural settings. We will also comment on social settings related to rural areas as this helps us understand some of the findings. This document does not intend to be exhaustive but rather a short account of the fact that society need make sure rural communities are well connected to the rest of the population....
