Definition
Performance measures in biometrics define quantifiable assessments of the processing speed, recognition accuracy, and other functional characteristics of a biometric algorithm or system. The processing speed is evaluated by throughput rate which represents the number of users that can be processed per unit time, and the typical metrics for recognition accuracy are the rates of failure to enroll, failure to acquire, false nonmatch, false match, false reject, and false accept. In addition to these fundamental performance measures, there are other measures which are specifically dependent on applications (verification, open-set identification, or closed-set identification), such as false-negative and false-positive identification-error rates. Also, graphic measures such as DET curve, ROCcurve, and CMC curveare very efficient tools to present overall matching performance of biometric algorithms or systems. Biometric...
