Abstract
Authentication of a user or a device is absolutely essential before it can be allowed access to critical and protected resources or services. Most of the existing fingerprint-based authentication systems have focused on authenticating human beings only. There is a strong need to extend the fingerprinting ideas to devices for the purpose of building robust and more convenient authentication systems for the next generation connected devices. Furthermore, device fingerprints have many other related applications including forensics, intrusion detection, and assurance monitoring that need to be explored as well. In this chapter, we introduce important aspects of device fingerprints.
