Abstract
Even though modern laboratory concepts like Online Labs and Pocket Labs are implemented in a number of engineering education programs, the available exercises are still limited regarding the use of standard com-ponents (in case of Pocket Labs) and standard experiments (Online Labs). The goal of the work described here is to increase the number of available exercises for the said modern laboratory concepts. In this case, we chose exercises that are measuring the characteristics of small DC motors, as they are easily available at a reasonable price and thus can be classified as — more or less — standard components. The project of designing these exercises focuses on the feasibility of creating appropriate hardware setups both for Pocket and Online Labs, and, in a next step, on providing a suitable software frame for students. The accompanying didactic material should not only give a step-by-step walkthrough, but also provide deeper understanding.
