Abstract

Urban design is the process of designing and shaping the city, involving large-scale buildings, streets, and public space organizations. Accompanied by technological improvement, and increasing computational power, new methods and technologies become more and more important in urban design. The parametric design is to treat urban design as a complex system. When basic design parameter relationships are set, we have to find an algorithm to construct a parameter relationship to generate a shape. Based on the introduction and application of parametric design, this paper takes several urban design projects for example, and proposes the development ideas and design methods of parametric urban design. Finally, this paper states that parametric design can give us what kind of reform for urban design at a global scale.
