The Impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution on Engineering Education (ICL 2019)

Abstract

Due to the dynamics of construction challenges, modern construction project management has incorporated quality management principles. There are pressures on both management and the workforce to meet the requirements to completing job on time, safe design and construction, minimize environmental effects, within the available budget, and customer requirements satisfied. This study aims at identifying the factors causing quality problems in gas station construction projects in Bangkok Metropolitan Region, Thailand from professionals (project manager, deputy project manager, project engineer, line manager, etc.), general contractors, subcontractors, and owners’ viewpoint. Another purpose of this study is to use this information to identify where training is needed, for example, through education or specialized training in helping to resolve significant quality problems. The authors conducted a literature review on the definition of quality and factors affecting quality, depending upon parts of a project life cycle, e.g. the conceptual design, detail design, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
