Abstract

The combination of Social Networks with the Internet of Things, has led to the appearance of a new standard dubbed Social Internet of Things (SIoT), where devices are able to make social links between each other. However, ensuring secure and trustworthy interactions between all the agents in the network is still an ongoing challenge. Trust is a notion which assesses the reliability of a communication between two agents namely: the trustor and the trustee. Therefore, there is a need for a Trust Management (TM) model to deal with dishonest nodes and ensure a users’ safe communications. In this research, we propose a new TM for SIoT systems called TM-SIoT, for the sake to assess the trustworthiness of SIoT nodes based on mutual evaluation method. The proposed method provides reliable security mechanisms for both the trustor and the trustee, by considering both of quality of service and social metrics that can affect trust in SIoT Systems. In addition, we propose a novel trust metric which is the time aware to deal with nodes’ behaviors changing over the time and to limit the influence of reputations given in the past for the trust assessment. The experimentations results performed based on ns-3 simulator show that the proposed model produces a reliable trust level for protecting both the trustor and the trustee toward dynamic nodes’ behaviors even for a system with 50% of malicious nodes.
