Abstract

Smart cities, to emerge as such, must evolve technologically and create means for their citizens to become active actors of the city’s ecosystem. With road safety as background, cities must promote and implement new measures to guarantee the safety of its citizens. The goal of SafeCity is to foster Smart Cities and, at the same time, allow its users to participate and have access to a set of information about the current and future status of their city. It currently targets those more vulnerable at the road. SafeCity’s backend focuses on data collection and on fulfilling the entire Machine Learning pipeline, with a mobile application working as frontend. SafeCity offers, among others, traffic flow forecasts, a geofencing service with smart notifications, a city’s map based on the quantification of citizens’ feelings, and a boredom classifier. A gamification engine is used to support and promote user engagement.
