Abstract

As digitization elevated the public’s needs, aesthetic and cognitive demands concerning public facilities [1], the design of public restroom in tourist city is facing new challenges. The research, by taking the example of independent public restrooms and those affiliated to other buildings in Kuala Lumpur, analyzes the needs of tourists about city public restroom, and tries to design a query system of intelligent and information-rich public restroom. Focusing on the needs of people from different countries and regions and varying cultural backgrounds, the research proposes the design of a public restroom smart search system which takes the inner and outer space of public restroom into account, and a reasonable evaluation method of public restroom data. The significance of the proposal lies in that it can help provide effective service and showcase the good images of city to tourists on one hand, and on the other hand, provide the managers and designers of public restroom in tourist city a design model for reference, which can help to strengthen the harmonious relationship among people, public restrooms and cities.
