Abstract
The present article focuses on the analysis of Communication Design education in Portugal, whose integration date in higher education points to a period of great social and political uncertainties. This study includes an analysis of the faculty, the teaching methods and the evolution of the course for over 40 years. The first course in Communication Design in Porto, dates back to January 1976 at the School of Fine Arts (ESBAP). This study aims to lay the groundwork for a paradigm shift in the recognition, communication and activation of relevant contributions to knowledge, culture and the social fabric that art and design academics can offer in their own name: forms of wisdom that may have not necessarily been reverted or translated into scientific knowledge in their careers and which may thereby find other contexts of resonance and applicability.
