Abstract
Rapid urbanization has changed the functions and types of many spaces, including the separation of production space and living space, the weakening of political space, the generation of new social capital production space and the improvement of public space’s external communication ability. It is found that there are three periods in the evolution of rural space in China. Rural public space is closely related to the production of social capital. The reproduction of community public space is essentially the reproduction of the power relationship between the spatial subjects. This kind of power relationship is manifested in three dimensions of social capital trust, norms and network. In the long historical period, under the influence of the three dimensions, the traditional villages gradually formed a unique public space layout and form. The power of rural public space evolution comes from the change of social capital.
