Abstract

One of the most tedious problems affecting smart cities is traffic congestion. Several studies demonstrate that the main cause of this phenomenon is drivers looking for a free parking slot, operation that requires a slow driving and, hence, slows down the entire traffic trend. For this reason, many researchers are proposing innovative techniques to speed up the parking process and improve the traffic configuration. In this work, we design an innovative smart-parking system based on a consortium-linke mechanism, in such a way that both consortium-members and drivers can take advantage from the deal. Specifically, if the user wants to reserve a slot, the system first performs a user profiling, then proposes several choices of available parking areas, in an opportune order with respect to the user’s preferences. Reservation requests can be made through a mobile app and they are dealt with priority queues. From one hand, each driver optimizes his driving time while maximizing his preferences, on the other hand consortium-members obtain an important visibility.
