Universal Access in Human-Computer Interaction. Access to Media, Learning and Assistive Environments (HCII 2021)

Abstract

As the need for remote environments in education emerged during the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic crisis, Moodle learning management system (LMS) was widely used in higher education. Under these requirements, both students and teachers had to adapt and begin using different resources and activities within the platform. This research’s aim is to compare Moodle LMS usage before, during and after the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic, what resources and activities were used and what future tendencies have come from this scenario in a Portuguese Higher Education University, Universidade do Algarve. Results show a huge growth of the LMS platform usage during the first wave and an increase afterwards, showing that teachers and students behaviors have changed and technologies can complement traditional on premises classes, improving teaching and learning methods.
