Abstract

With the popularity of Digital Financial Services (DFS), it is urgent and prudent to equip people with necessary knowledge and increased awareness to achieve financial well-being. This study, as a first step, employed the Design Thinking Methodology to design a mobile app for young people’s digital financial literacy promotion. In the content design, it covers the fundamentals of DFS, awareness of potential DFS risks, and practical strategies for making informed DFS decisions. These content components work together to enable young people to make critical judgments on the state-of-the-art DFS offerings. In the delivery design, it implements digital nudges in an effort to reduce cognitive load and sustain user engagement. The nudging strategies include: 1) facilitator nudges to keep learning chunks small and easy-to-understand; 2) spark nudges to enhance users’ learning motivation; 3) signal nudges to navigate the entire learning journey; 4) inquiry nudges to provide the scaffoldings anywhere anytime.
