Can Community Point System Promote the Interaction Between Residents?

Abstract

Community currency was used throughout the world in the 1990s and 2000s, and is once again attracting attention. Today there is renewed interest in it as a digital community currency. Whether digital or not, most community currencies have two main purposes: to promote interaction between residents and to stimulate consumption within a region. To achieve both purposes is not easy. In this paper, we focus on the former, namely, to promote interaction between residents. To examine the effect of community currency, we built our original Gift and Circulation model as a community point system and performed a multi-agent simulation and social experiment. Based on the data of the social experiment, we considered the conditions for promoting donation by conditional logit analysis. The analysis confirmed that receiving from other participants strongly encourages donation behavior. Compare with the results of simulation, it suggests that the parameter of donation will be a key factor of the community point system.
