Abstract

Head-up displays have gradually become an important information display device on aircraft, but sometimes the color of the background environment can interfere with the recognition of information on the head-up display. In order to improve the information recognition effect of HUD, environment adaptive HUD has been proposed. This paper discusses the effect of hue on dynamic visual search when the background color is adaptive. In the actual environment, the color of environment is usually constantly changing, and the color difference and the speed of color change are important factors that affect the recognition of HUD information. This paper selects hue difference as a quantitative indicator of the degree of color difference, and hue change rate as an indicator of color change rate. Through dynamic visual search experiments, the effect of hue difference and hue change rate on search performance and accuracy are studied. The experimental results found that the hue difference will affect the search performance and accuracy rate, and as the hue difference increases, the accuracy rate and search performance will increase and the response time will decrease. This paper found that in the design process of the adaptive color HUD interface, the driver’s visual search ability can be improved by increasing the hue difference; the hue difference between the interface and the background can be reduced to help the pilot concentrate on the external environment. In addition, the hue change rate has a significant impact on the reaction time, and there is an interaction effect with the hue difference. When the change rate of the external environment is low, increasing the color difference value can appropriately improve the search efficiency. When the change rate of the external environment is high, the effect of the color difference on the search efficiency is limited.
