Abstract

The study reported on in this article explored Information and Communication Technology (ICT) programming students’ perceptions of the online assessment being used at the University of South Africa (UNISA). The university had recently implemented an online assessment mode in the Learning Management System (LMS) it is using. Therefore, the importance of students’ perceptions of this mode of assessment needed to be examined. The results were encouraging. Students’ perceptions of online assessment were generally positive, and they valued features with regard to online assessment providing faculty with feedback to improve learning and not only enhancing quality aspects of students’ learning, but also helping to improve the quality of assessment in higher education.
