Abstract

As the main part of the bearing, the steel ball has a vital impact on the accuracy, running performance and service life of the bearing. Therefore, the bearing steel ball must be fully tested for the surface quality of the steel ball before leaving the factory. In this study, the one-dimensional guide-way unfolding mechanism is used to realize the complete unfolding of steel ball surface, and the eddy current sensor is used to detect the surface quality of the steel ball. Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm was used to eliminate the trend term of detection signal. Three kinds of bearing steel balls with natural defects were tested to compare with the good ones. results show that the detection system can effectively distinguish between qualified and defective steel balls.
