Abstract
Many universities have been altogether developing their education resources toward a sustainable future, and university museums central academic or cultural hubs within parental institutions. The advantages of object-based learning (OBL), an active learning method that employs museum collections and objects, have undergone renaissance as interdisciplinary learning in regards to university museums. In this study, it was envisioned that the practice of OBL in blended learning context using old but drivable textile machines in the university museum could play a crucial role in educating students under in-person and online learning setting and that it can gain students’ interests and prompt interdisciplinary learning. Moreover, the learning efficacy to combine OBL with other active learning methods such as flip teaching, think-group-share, and poster tour using drivable textile machines for students majoring in various engineering fields was examined. As a result, it was disclosed that the students’ interests in old textile machines were significantly enhanced after observing objects online and personally handling and driving them in-person through interdisciplinary learning. Then, it is suggested that the combination OBL with other pedagogical methods is officious to lead interdisciplinary and multi-generational dialog for a sustainable future.
