Abstract

We consider a course assignment problem where the workload constraint is represented as an interval information form constraint. The workload of each subject can be in interval form due to a few factors, for example the uncertain number of enrollment. The instructor interval requested workload has a specific interpretation where each instructor prefers to be assigned the left bound of the workload interval. This workload constraint semantic leads to a new type of interval assignment problem solution called the special tolerance left solution. We study the characteristics of the new solution and apply them to solving the course assignment problem with interval workload constraint. We illustrate the solution with a real life example.
