Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the students’ appropriation level of studying techniques to strengthen text comprehension at the University Corporation of Huila, through the use of learning worksheets on underlining, summarizing, and the main idea. The study was carried out due to the unsatisfactory results in reading comprehension, the low use, and lack of knowledge of techniques to address the academic activities of university students. The type of research is quantitative, with a sample of 235 students enrolled in theoretical subjects of the Faculties of Engineering, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Economic and administrative sciences. The instruments used were: the SHTQ questionnaire (Study Habits and Techniques Questionnaire) that was adapted to the use of studying techniques: underlining, summary and, the main idea; likewise, a diagnostic activity on text analysis was performed at the beginning and the end. The intervention was carried out in 10 sessions and included four phases: diagnosis, design, implementation, and data analysis and interpretation. The results reinforced the knowledge on the techniques of underlining, the main idea, and summary; likewise, it had positive and significant effects on the global comprehension of texts, with scores higher than the initial diagnosis.
