Abstract

An employee who works with die cuts complained about a soft tissue injury in her right shoulder. This injury was a result of repetitive motions occurring in a non-ergonomic fashion. Currently, the employee is required to reach up and around to retrieve the die cuts. This is an ergonomic analysis that studied the effects of a soft tissue injury in a manufacturing setting. The goal was to find a more ergonomic solution to lessen injury, or remove altogether, by analyzing the workspace, the worker’s anthropometrics, and the tasks, repetitive or varying. The relevant findings of this study showed the task of throwing die cuts is repetitive, the employee in question faces another challenge of being shorter in height than her other coworkers, and injuries such as this are common and are occurring more often. An ergonomic plan showing recommendations and preventative methods is to be implemented and enforced by the employer and followed by the employees.
