Abstract
This project consists of improving what was done in the previous project. The previous project was about using RAMSIS to run an ergonomic analysis of an excavator. This analysis allows the improvement of a workplace that matches the capabilities of the workers and operators. It also helps prevent injuries at a workplace by identifying tasks that are hazardous for work-related musculoskeletal disorders [1]. In the previous project, we concluded that the excavator needed improvement by adjusting the steering wheel, the display, the control panel, and the armrests of the seat. This project consists of making these adjustments and finding a range of adjustments that would be comfortable for 6 different manikins who cover a wide range of body types. The body types consist of both male and female operators, long and short torso, 95th, 5th, and 50th percentiles. We created points on the display, control panel, steering wheel, and created kinematics for these three objects which allowed us to create degrees of freedom so we can adjust by translating these objects along the x, y, and z axes and rotating them along the three axes. Once the adjustments have been made, we ran the ergonomic analysis by calculating the level of discomfort and the reachability of the manikins. The goal is to keep the level of discomfort below 3.5 and the manikin must touch the object without leaning forward.
