Turtle Heroes: Designing a Serious Game for a VR Interactive Tunnel

Abstract

Immersive playful activities are regarded to be a promising way for increasing children’s understanding of significant issues. This paper proposes an immersive interactive tunnel environment, for which we developed a serious game to raise awareness on children and young adults on environmental issues and endangered species, and specifically, about Caretta caretta. The paper first describes the design and implementation of the CAVE-tunnel system; then, it discusses the design and development of the serious game “Turtle Heroes”. This is a work in progress while more games are in the design process for this VR interactive tunnel setup. Possible uses, opportunities and future works-games in this environment are also discussed.
