Abstract

Commonsense has long been a question of great interest in a wide range of disciplines but there has been little agreements on it. The research to date has tended to focus on commonsense with disciplinary characteristics rather than commonsense research itself. However, commonsense issues are inherently generic in nature and need to be considered from a broader perspective. It is the more effective way to investigate infants with generic characteristics in order to clarify the essence of commonsense. A new framework for a commonsense view of epistemic turnaround inspired by infant learning. It points out that commonsense not only has the characteristics of infant learning as embodiment, constructivity, and generativeness, but also has the characteristics of hierarchy of development, bounded relativity, embodiment of semantics, and axiomatic openness. In this paper, the term ‘commonsense’ will be used in its broadest sense to refer to a kind of useful background knowledge for an intelligent subject, and this background knowledge belongs to the adaptive experience actively constructed in the open environment. Finally, the enlightenment of this new commonsense view is discussed. In future research, it might be possible to be an opportunity to break the current limitations of Artificial Intelligence.
