Abstract
The paper examines the interrelation between the type of social and psychological adaptation and personal identity of first-year students in a technical university. The results of an ongoing study are described with a particular focus on changes of psychic content of social and psychological adaptation and its constructive and destructive types which were observed. During the experiment the personal identity characteristic of students and its evolution over a period of 12 years were studied. The paper presents preliminary results which show a decline in the constructive type of social and psychological adaptation and an increase in the number of students with diffuse personal identity. Further studies on this topic are considered.
