What Do Students Think About Learning Supported by e-Schools Digital Educational Resources?

Abstract

Today’s students use digital educational resources (DER) to a significant extent, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic made classical teaching in the classroom impossible for several months. It is therefore important that digital educational resources are of high quality and enables meaningful learning even in cases when the teacher is not present. Research which is presented in the paper focuses on DER for primary and secondary level students and their opinions about DER which were created in the e-Schools project. Those DER are primarily focused on providing support for students’ process of learning and must follow requirements and guidelines that were prescribed by the tender documentation. In this paper we describe eight pedagogical requirements, then overall technical requirements, along with the guidelines for the development of multimedia and interactive elements within DER that are aligned with the principles of multimedia learning. The research study was focused on three research questions related to the relation of variables among students’ opinions about DER (RQ1), relations among profiles of primary and secondary school students’ opinions and different aspects of DER (RQ2), and correlation between clusters related to a school class of primary or secondary school students (RQ3). Research results are based on the 11827 students’ answers. Results show three factors consisting of variables which are related. Further, we identified four profiles of students, and lastly, there is no linear relationship between students’ school and obtained cluster. The overall conclusion is that DER which were created within the e-Schools project have consistent quality for all levels of education.
