Abstract

In service design development, there is a growing interest in collaborative design, not only with designers but also with engineers and other developers, from the early design stage. The importance of using prototyping in collaboration is also becoming increasingly recognized. Research on prototyping in collaborative design includes many examples of its use, various forms of prototyping, and the capabilities of prototyping. However, how do we create prototypes? What are the elements of prototyping and how should we communicate to make prototypes? These questions have not yet been fully investigated. In order to approach the question of the creative process leading to prototyping, this study analyzes the creative thinking process leading to prototyping in a collaborative design case study and looks at the design elements that led to the creation of the prototype. From these results, we aim to explore the key elements of design communication and design collaboration for prototyping in collaborative design.
